In this dynamic program, creativity takes a backseat as we prioritize skill development and precision. Led by our experienced instructors, students embark on a structured and guided journey, step by step, to reproduce renowned paintings. Through this meticulous approach, young artists not only acquire the ability to recreate masterpieces, but also cultivate essential artistic skills. Our results-based approach ensures that each child gains a deep understanding of the artistic process and hones their abilities with every brushstroke. From discipline to patience and unwavering attention to detail, Serious Art instills invaluable qualities that extend far beyond the canvas.

Studying the masters is a cornerstone of artistic development. Just as aspiring musicians turn to Mozart to study music, painters often look to masters to refine their skills in the world of visual arts. Studying the masters not only provides technical guidance but also ignites our creative spirit. It teaches us to appreciate the artistry that came before us and to understand the evolution of our chosen medium. By immersing ourselves in the works of these masters, we absorb their wisdom, their artistic choices, and their innovative approaches. This knowledge becomes the foundation upon which we can build our own artistic journey. We believe that every one of our students is a MASTER IN THE MAKING, and that their journey begins with Art Fundamentals and Practice.

Art fundamentals and practice are essential in fine arts. Composition and design, art history, cognitive development, studio materials, and fine art techniques all play a crucial role. They provide a framework for creative expression, inspire artists, develop critical thinking skills, and refine artistic craftsmanship. The importance of these elements cannot be overstated as they contribute to artistic excellence and meaningful artwork. Our Fall Session will utilize each one of these important fundamentals as we create our art.

STUDIO MATERIALS

7 Week Spring Session

Claude Monet, a pioneering figure in the Impressionist movement, left an indelible mark on the art world with his groundbreaking works. Born in Paris in 1840, Monet’s passion for painting blossomed from a young age. He was captivated by the interplay of light and color, which became the hallmark of his style. Monet’s landscapes, particularly his series depicting his beloved garden at Giverny, showcase his masterful use of brushwork to capture the ephemeral beauty of nature. His iconic “Water Lilies” series exemplifies his ability to convey the essence of a scene rather than its precise details, revolutionizing the way art was perceived.

PROJECT #1

ACRYLIC PAINTING ON CANVAS

Let’s Put A Cat In It!
(Or Something Else)

Claude Monet employed several innovative techniques in creating his famous water lily paintings, which have since become emblematic of the Impressionist movement. One of his notable techniques was the use of broken color and loose brushwork to convey the play of light and atmosphere on the surface of water. Monet adeptly utilized layers of translucent paint to build depth and texture, often applying multiple thin glazes to achieve the desired luminosity. This session we will be exploring many of Monet’s and other Impressionist painters techniques while re-creating this incredible painting. Not into Cats – No Worries – we will work to find something else to add a special touch to the painting.

PROJECT #2

WATERCOLOUR

Watercolor painting holds a significant place in the history of art, dating back centuries to ancient civilizations such as Egypt and China. Its importance lies in its versatility, allowing artists to create delicate washes or vibrant, saturated hues with relative ease. Watercolor gained prominence during the Renaissance and later flourished in the hands of masters like J.M.W. Turner and Winslow Homer. Its techniques involve diluting pigments with water to achieve various transparencies and effects, from subtle gradients to bold strokes. Artists often utilize wet-on-wet or wet-on-dry methods, layering washes to build depth and detail.

EXTRA 7TH WEEK PROJECT

BATH BOMBS

Making and using bath bombs is a delightful sensory experience that brings joy to both creators and users alike. Crafting these fizzy spheres involves mixing together ingredients like baking soda, citric acid, essential oils, and vibrant colorants, resulting in an array of fragrant and visually appealing creations. The process of molding and shaping the bath bombs can be incredibly satisfying, offering a creative outlet for experimentation with colors, scents, and shapes. Once dropped into a bath, these effervescent wonders release their enchanting aroma and vibrant hues, transforming an ordinary soak into a luxurious spa-like experience.

MEET MONET
