I have been curating, organizing and implementing kids art classes for more than ten years. A few weeks ago, as I sat looking outside on a cold grey winter’s day, I could think of no better Canadian artist to study this winter than Ted Harrison.
What’s so wonderful about Ted Harrison? He didn’t see winter like most people. There’s no grey in his winter. In his paintings of winter the sky is pink, yellow, and orange. The snowy ground is wondrous shades of purple. His lines are bold and simplified, and the result: Mystical.
Ted Harrison was one of Canada’s most renowned artists. He loved the landscape of Canada, especially of the North and he loved the people of Canada. I can’t think of a better time to embrace an artist who sees rainbows where others see grey.
Kids need to feel inspired. They need bright vibrant colour even in these grey times. Art is always an invaluable tool for children to express themselves, but especially now. According to the Mayo Clinic, working on new skills and new projects helps distract us from worry cycles, and can reduce anxiety and depression.
The winter days are short and the hours at home can feel long. Break up that long day with colour and creation. During this class each student will learn about colour theory and colour mixing. The students will examine Harrison’s wonderful paintings, and be inspired to create their very own colourful mystical winter wonderland.
Don’t worry about the messy. During each class our incredible instructors will help each student set up and clean up their space, and store their art supplies. The materials are all included. Everything your artist will need to hang a painting in their room (or maybe your living room) that family will cherish for years to come.
