URBAN ABSTRACT

This spring were are going big and bold. We’re talking bright colours, dynamic shapes, and dripping paint.

I recently headed downtown for the first time in a long time, and was so inspired by the beautiful street art that adorns the buildings and bridges of T.O. By the time I got home, I knew I had to find a way to bring the vivid colours and big  bright daring art of the street to the studio this spring. I knew exactly what we would needed to do. Purchase an airbrush machine.

For those who have never tried it, let me tell you, Air brush painting is ahhhmazzzing! Have you ever wanted to fill a water gun with paint and then just paint a giant heart with bright pink. It’s kind of like that. The airbrush can be used on almost any surface from canvas to clothing to cars. It can be learned fairly quickly, and the learning process is fun.  Spraying and dripping, and changing colours the airbrush will give us the look of spray painting without the chemicals.

We are not talking about a tiny paint brush with tiny movements. Airbrushing is a full body experience, and the unpredictability and dynamic movement of the airbrush spray will ensure every splashy, drippy, messy, airbrushed work of art is completely unique.

The painting this term is a large 20”x20” colour filled masterpiece.  Batman. Playstation. My Little Pony.  Hearts. Rainbows. Puppies.  Sprite. Fortnite.  Anything goes. You will be kicking yourself if your kids miss out on this. This painting is going to be the stuff of legends.

In addition students this term will not only get to make art, but also to wear it. Everyone will be asking where that new hat came from, and they can proudly say Messy Pants.

Do you like funko-pops?  We do. Thats why we are using model magic to make our very own versions of this famous toy.  I can’t wait to see how these turn out.

Did you know you can draw on chalkboard slime.  All you need is chalkboard additive, and some chalkboard markers. When you stretch your slime the words get bigger and when you roll the slime into a ball they disappear.  Chalkboard slime is our newest slime lab obsession.

Art is everywhere.  This term we take our inspiration from the streets.  We are going big, we are going bright we are going bold.  We are going all out to make sure this is the best most fun art session EVER.

Warning: students may leave the studio with paint under their finger-nails and a smile on their face.
